Swedish Allmoge Soldiers

During the weekend I have finisded some more Allmoge Soldiers. This unit are under command of Birger Birgersson from the house of Trolle, father to Arvid Birgersson (Trolle)

The family name comes from the family coat of arms that depicts a headless troll. According to tradition, the family had taken these arms on the basis of a legend that a common ancestor must have killed a troll and robbed a drinking horn, which was called Våxtorpshornet.

Some pictures of the whole Allmoge unit with the crossbowmen.

15th Century Handgunners

Last weekend I at last managed to paint some Handgunners that have been up at my painting table for a long while...

This will represent german mercenarys in service of a Swedish noblemen that can´t affort the latest equipment.

They might be used as light artillery to, as there is said that the Swedes deployed artillery in forest terrain...I find it not likely that they managed to deploy and make good use of a ordinary gun in the forest terrain, but the use of some heavyer Hand guns would find their way in to the historical accounts... Have to look closer in to that question...

The minis are from Perry miniatures.

Union infantry troops

Here are 2 pictures of the newly painted German Mercenary mixed in with therie units of Danish/Union infantry.

The Danes made extensive use of Mercenary, mostly from Germany, under their own command or in some cases a german noblemen. these units are under command of Swedish/Danish border nobility.

The border nobility aim at Noble Houses that had estates in both Denmark and Sweden. They often sided for the Union due to better trade possibilitys and to secure their estates in both contrys.

I have chosen to have attacking minis in the front and marching in the back.

These will be used as Heavy Infantry and will in most cases beat the shit out of the Swedish Allmoge in OPEN terrain...

German Mercenarys

I have painted 4 bases of German mercenarys in Danish/Union service.

These will be mixed with already existing units so I can remove the crossbowmen I at first had in the units.

I want to have all Mercenary units made up af the same type of troop, so only the Allmoge units are mixed.

The minis are a mix, mostly old Games Workshop (Dogs of War range), Perry and some Crusader.

Workbench...

Some pictures of what I did last night.

Started to go through the Claymore Casting minis and glued some of them on sticks to be painted.

I will make 2 unit command bases of these for two Swedish Allmoge units, it was quite common for the Swedish Knights to dismount and lead the Allmoge by example from the front... Charge...

One of my favourite Claymore Castings minis is the one charging with a large Claymore...BUT coulden´t have a claymore armed Allmoge soldier so I cut it of, drilled a hole and gave him a Large Swedish Axe instead:)

Minis from Perry ans 4x Claymore Castings.

In the back of the picture you can see the brass tube I use on all my banner bearers so I can exchange my linnen banners.

By the way, the Claymore Casting site are now up and running, its possible to order minis and banners.

Command close-ups

I have got a request of some close-up pictures of my mercenary crossbow Captain.

I didn´t know if i dare to show him close-up, not sure my painting style would survive close-ups... but here he is... be gentle please;)

Minis are from Games Workshop, dog-of-war range.

Although they are slightly bigger and bulkier than the Perrys they work fine mixed up in my units.

As close as it gets...

Pre-order have arrive:)

Yesterday I got my pre-order of the Claymore Casting minis, one of each of the 20 in the first release.

The minis look realy good, very cleare casts and very little mould line.

They match up good with my Perry minis and they will be mixed arround in my units of Swedish Allmoge for my Kalmar Union War project.
