Losing my focus...

As all? wargamers I sometimes have a hard time to focus at my projects, during the summer some of my friends started up a ACW project... in a weak moment i mentioned something about painting a brigade...

Minis to use...
It din´t take long before I got some left over minis, about 80 or so, to start my painting...but I newer got around as I realy didn´t know what to paint...Union...Confederat...which brigade...

After some research and also checking the minis I got I decided to go for the Union and the Philadelphia Brigade as it included both "ordinary", Irish and Zouave regiments, and it also god enought matched the minis I got:)

The Philadelphia Brigade consisted of 4 regiments:

69th Pennsylvania Vols (2nd California Regiment, Irish)
71st Pennsylvania Vols (1st California Regiment)
72nd Pennsylvania Vols ( Baxter's Fire Zouaves/3rd California Regiment )
106th Pennsylvania Vols (5th California Regiment)

Flags of War...
I started to look for flags but didn´t find them all, just the  Baxter's Fire Zouaves at Flags of War. So I contacted Iain at Flags of War and asked if he had any plans to make the rest of the flags for the Philadelphia Brigade?

Iain was promt in his respons and offer to make them, we had some mail conversation of how they should look I sent all the links and pictures I found at the web of the flags and in almost no time Iain hade made them all:) Perfect customer service !

I actually got the flags some month ago...but I haven´t mustered the inspiration to paint the minis untill recently...

No pictures of the first minis from this little interlude yet, but here are some sample pictures of the stunning flags that Iain made for my 4 regiments.

If you in need of the flags for the Philadelphia brigade you find them at Flag of War :)

As I still have a hard time to motivate my self for this project it will be a real speed painting interlude.

More in a day or two...

  1. A "butterfly effect" then? ;-)
But don't despair, every decent wargamer has experienced such moments of weakness. Actually, three out of four current projects on my paint desk started as impulse buys. The sooner you accept this magpie habit the more effective it becomes, though.

    Good luck!

  3. Heard good things about Flags of War before, but that really is excellent service.

Got to say I'm in the same boat as Tilman there, three projects on the go that were all impulse buys!

  4. Bufff ... talking about lack of focus, what I have on my desk right now: a 1/72 Huey helicopter half-finished for Vietnam, 12 x 28mm Romano British warriors in different stages of painting, a box of Esci German WWII infantry (20mm) also in different stages of painting, a box of US WWII infantry still pending, one Sdkfz 222 pending final details and weathering...

  6. Thanks for the kinds Michael.

You will need to get a good movie to get you in the mood. Gods and Generals or Gettysburg should get the blood pumping for some painting. I have watched Last of the Mohicans about 5 times since i started my FIW project :D

    1. Your Welcome Iain, very well deserved !

Suppouse I have to see Gettusburg then as the Philadelphia Brigade took some part in the repulse of the Pickett´s charge, if I recall right.

Thanks again for a good work Iain !

  8. I've always got three or four projects on the go. I seldom do 2 units from the same period, before switching to another one and in fact it's often just one unit before switching.
My lack of focus is so bad that when putting paint on the first miniature of a project I'm usually already thinking of another one!

  9. The flags look great and it will be interesting to see the painted miniatures; I'm sure they will look just as good.

This year I've managed to keep my focus pretty good, though now I'm beginning to lose it – and I blame you! ;)

  13. Great service and great looking flags! I love your new project and I hope to follow in your footsteps in 2013.

I've got a large replica of the 69th NY Regimental flag (Irish Brigade). I need to paint an army to go with the flag! That and a new ruleset called Longstreet will be coming out next summer so that's all the excuse I need to join you.

  14. Looking forward to see the flag and the minis you painted to go with it:)

Hadent heard of the rules Longstreet, but it seems lika it is a Sam Mustafa game so then i probably will be realy good and worth a try, as long as its playable with 28´s
