Honours of War - first test game during the AWI

During the weekend my son and I had a first try out of the Honours of War rules, by Keith Flint and published by Osprey wargames.

After you had alook at my gaming pictures, please also have a look at authour Keith Flints blog and to his dedicated webpader for Honours of War

Fielding my long packed away American War of Independence collection we a run of the first "introduction"scenario in the rulebook, using light infantry instead of the Cavalry for the ones that wounder.

The scenario are quite small just one Brigade on each side, but it was perfect for learning the rules and it was very nice to see that the rules handled small engagements as well and it was a blast :)

OOB British
Officer
1st brigade
3 Foot infantry battalions
1 Field artillery

Indipendant unit
Light infantry battalion

OOB American
Officer
1st brigade
2 Foot infantry battalions
1 Light artillery

Indipendant unit
Light infantry battalion with rifles

Here follows a bunch of pictures from the game, must say that the trees my matey Jonas made realy lift the terrain :)

American contryside...

The defending American rebells

Riflemen to the left and two Foot infantry battalions, light gun on the hill in the back...

American riflemen

American light gun

Loyalist light infantry in the top, one Foot infantry battalions and the Field gun on the road and 2 Foot infantry battalions that just have crossed the fence...

The British advancing...

British office

Advance in column, makes it go a bit faster...

Moving through the small farm...

move on now...

The British brigade made a swift first move due to some exellent orders.

Each turn you roll for move iniative and the side that win it decide if to move a Brigade first or let the oponent do so, then they do alternate moves with Brigades or Independant units.

1st Brigade ready to approach the rebells...

The American responce was to move one battalion closer to get a short range volley at the Brittish...

The second American Battalion stod firm as movement would hamper their shooting...

Silence before the storm...

Kaboom !!! and almost all units opened up on the enemies, men fell alaround but all units stod firm... Just the British Loyalists hiding in the forest was out of range...

Each turn you roll for fire iniative the side that win fire with all units in a Brigade or independant unit first, then the sides do alternate fire with Brigades or Independant units untill all units that want to fire have done so.

Each unit can take up to 5 damages, the first 2 don´t do much but after 3 or more the unit start to be effected. It is possible to rally them, but not with enemies close by...

The American move in for some close range fire...

Thin red line ?

The smoke are just to keep track of wich unit have fired.

First unit to retreat was a British battalion... Hurray

One of the American units was also hurt due to the combined fire from two British battalions

The American decided to finish of the British in close combat...

but as they approached the brittish managed to rally the battalion...

...and deliver a devastating volley...

The Americans was on the run...

...but reinforcements was on their way in the form of a Light gun that initially was deployed on a hill far far away on the other side of the stream, dut now had been re-deployed...

The second American Battalion also had a hard time...

Heavy shooting...

The sneaky britts used their Field gun to give the fleeing American battallion a last farwell kiss...

on the other side the 2 units of Light infantry had their own time of fun, shoting away...

The Bitish loyalists that had hide in the forest at first had to advance out in the open to get the American riflemen within range...

The American brigade have had enought for the day...

but the American commander (me) thought he had still done a great work i delaying the advancing British...

Victorious British and my son cheer as the American flee from the battle field...

Indeed a great game we had, even the first time trying out the rules they worked really fien, might have forgotten a bunch of rules, but the game was good and my 6 year old son gor the basic very quickley, maybe to quickley as he won with the british...
