Sunday Service - Lion Rampant AAR

As I lately had Tony´s Danes up for a Fotoshoot I and my son David had a Lion Rampant game with them.

The House of Thott and the House of Grubendal have a land dispute and the House of Grubendal have allied up with the House of Bydelbak. They now feel confident enought to take up the fight with the powerfull House of Thott so they decide ti ambusch them at Church after the Sunday Service...

BUT the House of Thott of course havegot information about the attack so they have brougt plenty of men to show who is the most powerfull House in Denmark.

We used the "Bloodfued" scenario to play this battle out, but both players had to kill the oppositions leader. The gaming area was 120x120cm. I commanded the House of Thott and David commanded the House of Grubendal with allies.

OOB House of Thott (red/yellow),
2 units of Foot Serjants with Mixed Weapons @ 6 points each
1 unit of Mounted Serjants with better armour (Staminia 4) @ 6 points

OOB House of Grubendal (Black/Yellow) and  House of Bydelsbak (red/white)
2 unit of Foot Serjants with Heavy Weapons @ 6 points each
1 unit of Mounted Serjants @ 4 points
1 unit of Bidowers @ 2 points

The House of Thott started with all its infantry outside the church door, their Cavalry came by the road to the right. The House of grubendal with allies arrived from the South West corner.

The two units of Foot Serjants fron the House of Thott, each group are a mix of men-at-arms, Serjants and Crossbowmen.

House of Thott Cavalry reinforcements...

The House of Thott Leader and his men take a defensive position by the churchwall.

Guardin the gate...

The second group of foot serjants from the House of Thott starts to shoot at the approaching enemies...

The allies from the House of  Bydelsback advance in cover of the gärdesgård (fence)

The Cunning leader of the House of Grubendal let his allies take the first fighting, saving his own soldiers...

The soldiers move closer to each other as all civilians hide in the sanctuary of the church...

Reinforcements closing in, will they arrive at time...

The Cavalry from the House of Bydelsback decides its a good idee to attack the foot serjants defending the churchwall... the cavalry are thrown back...

...as the cavalry move out of the way the fott serjants from the House of Bydelsback move in to try to cross the churchwall...

...the defenders struggle to keep their possitions...

...but are forced to withdraw to reorganice...

...the winner although dosen´t seems to be able to make use of their win...

...This have given the defenders time to rally...

...due to their hesitation the Foot Serjants from the House of Bydelsback are caught in the open by the House of Thott cavalry...

The infantry cant stand against the force of the cavalry attack and start to run...

...but the cavalry can´t follow as they are attacked by the Foot Serjants fron the House of Grubendal...

...the House of Thott Cavalry manage to withstand the infantry attack... just to be hit by the cavalry from the House of Bydelsback again...

The cavalry fight ends once again with the House of Bydelsback on the retreat...on the right flank the House of Grubendal Bidower´s take potshots at the Leader unit of the House of Thott...

The units rallies after the first turns of fighting, looks like the House of Thott have the uperhand...

The gate guards at the church mock the Leader for the House of Grubendal; ...come and catch us if you dare...

...but they don´t...instead they charge the depletend cavalry unit... wich they slay to the last horse...

Inspired by their allies the Foot Serjants from the House of Dybelsback move in to end the House of Thott foot Serjants...

In a desperate act of heroism the leader for the House of Thott takes his soldiers and leave the protection of the churchwall to advance forward his nemesis the Leader of the House of Grubendal...

Heavy fighting in the churchyard...

The Leader of the House of Thott call his opponent out for a honourable duell, mano a mano...

Both the leaders approaches each other, cheered by their troops...

After some swift blows the leader of the House of Thott fall to the ground... and the leader of the House of Grubendal rais his sword in the sky in victory !!!

That was all from now, jolly good game and david was pleased...but something is rotten in the state of Denmark ;)

  12. Looks superb as always. That church is a lovely centrepiece: but the builders must have been pretty slow, given it never seems an closer to completion regardless of the period it appears in!

Great game too: very dramatic. Thanks for the report.
