ACW artillery
I havent found any Artillery designated to the Philadelphia Brigade, but i´m sure they was supported by some big guns, and the was a piece amongst the minis I got...but no crew...wouldent be much shooting without the gunners...but that might have been the cunning plan from my benefactora all the way...

ReplyDeleteYou have some options with the artillery depending on how detailed you really want to go. I usually pick a battle and try and piece it together from there. At Gettysburg the Philadelphia Brigade was the 2nd Brigade (Webb), in the 2nd Division (Gibbon) in II Corps (Hancock). The artillery brigade for the 2nd Division was under Hazard and consisted of the following units:
ReplyDelete1st NY Light, Battery B - 10" Parrotts (x4)
1st Rhode Island Light, Battery A - 3" Rifles (x6)
1st Rhode Island Light, Battery B - 12# Napoleons (x6)
1st US, Battery I - 12# Napoleons (x6)
4th US, Battery A - 3" Rifles (x6)
Its likely that one of these batteries always directly supported 2nd Brigade but I couldn't figure out which one. It does give you a mix of volunteer and regular army units to choose from and three different types of artillery pieces to add some variety.
I dug a little deeper. At Gettysburg the 1st Rhode Island Light, Battery B was in support of the brigade at the "Angle" on the 3rd day of the battle. I think these are the guns that the Confederate General Lewis Armistead's Brigade captured briefly.
