A Moderate Swedish Conflict

Inspired by the wargaming concept a Very British Civil War some of my mates at our gaming club wanted to do something similar, BUT located in Sweden during the 1930´s.

Our historical starting point were the tragic use of lethal force by Swedish Military agains demonstrators in Ådalen 1931. From this event our alternative history will proceed in to a Moderate Swedish Conflict...

At the moment we are still just in the planing stage, but one of my friends, Björn did even commission some 28mm Swedish Interwar Infantry more then a year ago and unfortunally had some problem with the caster BUT it seems to have sorted out as he have got the first samples and a general release now seems closer when ever:)

I will keep you posted here and I hope that Björn also will update his blog dedicated to his project Ådalenminiatures.

24h run of FIW #8 - The AAR

As you noticed in my previous posts I have had a smal 24hour run of fixing up a 200p Muskets & Tomahawk Provincial force for the club game last night.

We run a 400 point game on 8 players! and it worked realy nice, M&T work very fine with multiple players on each side.

The British force had to burn the village and the French to protect it.

Here comes the first hand account from Sergeant Johnson of the New Jersey Provincials:

It was during the summer of -57, I was with the 2nd company of the Jersey Blues. Captain Parker had planed an attack on a small French settlement. 

The raid was conducted by the 1st and 2nd company supported by a company of Rangers and some Indian allies and the order was to burn the place to the ground.

We marched along the trail to the village with colours flying and drums setting the pace, The Rangers and Indians advanced through the forest on our right right flank. We expected the inhabitants to have fleed the field...

As we approaced the outskirts of the village we could see some movement amongst the houses, but Captain Parker urge us to march on and get the business done as he wanted home to supper...

Quite unexpected a company of Frensh regulars emerged from the village and delivered a devastating volly bring a third of the first companys men to the ground...

Just by Captain Parkers stediness the company hold their ground and continued a steady advance towards the village and the enemy...

When on close range the Jersey Blues 1st company formed a line and sent a promt  responce to the Frensh insault. Regardless of the first casulties, and the fact that our indian allies alread had bailed out,  we felt that we had the upper hand of the froggys...

Several vollys was delivered from both sides, the smell of gun powsder was immense...

As our 1st company had a shootout with 2 French companys our Rangers had advanced thorward the village for a flanking action...

The Ranger company, that was advancing to flank the french line infantry, was caught by a group of bloodthirsty indians that didn´t leave a single one of them standing...

I now seized the initiative and ordered the 2nd Company to make swift advance to the left and form a firing line behind a fence to support the 1st company in there shootout with the froggys...

All occupied by shoting at the froggys on the other side of the field, I didn´t notice the small group of indians that was advancing to flank our firing line...

At the same time as our 1st company was routed, by the concentrated french fire, my own company was in disintegration after a fierce flank attack by some bloodthirsty indians, I didn´t see them coming and suddenly I was running for my life with the few remains of the 2nd company...

Captain Parkers desperatly tried to rally the few remain of his 2 companys but was soon overwhelmed by the victorious indians...

As I was running against the forest I saw poor Captain Parker get scalped and as I reached the saftey of the woods several of my fleeing comrades fell by enemy fire...

It was a true dissaster almost 2 companys of Jersey Blues was gone, I still awake at night dreaming nightmares about the battle, in the end we where just a few managing to get back for evening supper...

Even ending up on the loosing side this time we had once again a greate game of Muskets & Tomahawks. The Rules worked really nice even with 8 players. I will try to play the Provincials in a bit smaller groups next time to get more flexibility and I might paint a bit more details on the as even geting their butts kicked they put up a real fight...

24h run of FIW #7

Back home after a day at work I only had a few moments with my 200p Provincial Muskets & Tomahawk force for tonights game. I just managed to fix the flags,  to find the Commanding officer, take a picture and post this blog post...now i´m of for some gaming...AAR in the near future i hope:)

If they manage to play well tonight I promise them to add more details to them;)

Browsed my photobucket for a appropriate Officer for the Provincials I´m working on and found this American officer from my AWI collection, he seems arrogant enought to bring his newly raised provincial troops out in the wilderness. Just to go home and find the box he is hiding in...

GOOOD MOOORNING !!!

At least here in Sweden there is early morning, it was even erlier when I got up and started to paint the Highlight on my 24 Provincials for tonights M&T game at the club.

So far I have highligted the blue, red and the yellow lacing on the hatt, and also some gray on the stones on the bases...

I´m now of to work and hope to fix the flags and maybe some more highlighting before the evening and gaming time.

Time to go to bed...

I have just given the minis a wash of Army painter Strong Tone Ink. and now they have to dry for a while. I plan to start early tomorrow so I will get the first hight lights done before I go to work.

Good evening:)

A short update in my 24h run on finishing a 200p M&T provincal force for the club game tomorrow night.

The now got a red waistcoat and blue breeshes, next I will give them a black cartridge box, a black band on the "gaiters" and a yellow lace on the tricorne...

I just finished the rebasing the 24 minis for my 200p Muskets & Tomahawk Provincal force, now I´m of to get them some new colour on the Waistcoats - Red and the Breeches - Blue, and some more details...

They should look some thing like this.

24h run of FIW #1

Just got a stupid idea this afternoon...wanted to try something different when playing Muskets & Tomahawks tomorrow at the club night.

We talked last time about geting some British regulars to even out the french ones, I got a bunch of those for my AWI Brittish, but I don´t want to re-base and they still would not have the right uniform.

So searching through my leadpile for a easy solution I stumbled over some of my first American continentals painted some 15 years ago and not based the same way as my current AWI collection...

So...rebasing 24 minis and give them a quick repaint so they look a bit more like New Jersey Provincials in about 24 hours are the plan...just have to go to work, take care of the kids and ofcourse blog about it to...I hope I make it untill to morrow evening, wish me luck:)

Mohawk Slaughter M & T AAR

Here are some pictures from one of our lates Muskets & Tomahawk games at the club.

We used about 600 points a side, the French got the slaughter mission and the English the Scout mission... yes I know that this isn´t the easyest game for the English side, but the best was that my Mohawks just had switched side to the French;)

OOB...as I recall it...the only sure number are my Indians:)

Anyway here comes a bunch of pictures of our game and a few comments my point of wiew i.e. the French indians.

Lots of civillians trying to hide and hope for the Ranges to come and save them and their moonshine machine.

Advancinge froggys emerge from the deep forest...

French forces advance, the indians close to the small village to start the slaughter...

The Rangers are here, praise the lord! ...our moonshine are saved...

French regulars and militia protect the left flank and let the indians do the dirty work....don´t want to spoil the white uniforms I reckon...

The bloodthirsty french indians makes some swift moves in the the village to start the slaughter...

The indians comes from everywhere...

The rest of the french force just sits back and watch... -demander à quelqu'un d'avoir un verre de vin?

French victory are close...

The indians seem to have forgott the hard hitting Rangers that in a very coordinated volly disperce most of the indians...

Not many indians left...

Lesson learnt, don´t advance with the indians in the open;)

The rest of the French force got a brutal awakening, seeing their allied indians running all ower the place...

The last of the Mohawks...was gathered by their leader...

General advance for most of the French forces...and som pesky indians leaving the field in a hurry...

With the support of the French regulars and Militia, the last few of the Mohawks could concentrate on slaughtering the civilians... One of the civilian groupes baricaded them selfs in a cabin, but the Mohawks soon had broken the door down...

The Mohawks continued to chase the Civillian amongst the houses as they was shoot to pieces by the British rangers... By a last epic strugle the Mohawk war chief managed to kill of the last of the Civilians and the British force was doomed...

Greate game, sorry for the one sided AAR, but I only had a few indians keft that could tell the story;)

Must say that I think M&T work extremly well and smouth for group gaming, all 5 players had something to do at almost all time during the game.

More Muskets & Tomahawk will be played and one start to get thought about what other settings the rules would work well for...realy looking forward to the Napoleonic supplement they are working on...
