Dux Suecia Campaign AAR #6

Monday morning and I have a AAR from my and Jonas 6th Dux Suecia Campaign game ( i.e. migrating the TFL Dux Britanniarum to 15th century Sweden and the Kalmar Union War.) for you, I hope you all will have a realy good week !

The last game we played was a battle and relieve action to lift the siege of Västerås Castle which the Rebells succeed with. If you want to refrech your memory of that game you can find the AAR here.

Late may 1467
The Rebell Comander Nils Bosson Sture of the House of Natt och Dag wanted to use his advantage from the Victory at Västerås in March to make a swift march to Stockholm, BUT due to the spring sowing all his Allmoge soldiers had to get back home to work on their farms for some weeks...

The rebell army was all assembled back at Västerås in Late may there they elected Nils Bosson Sture of the House of Natt och Dag as the Rebellion Hövitsman (High leader of the rebellion) and then the force started their advance towards the Swedish Capital Stockholm...

In the meanwhile the Union forces tried to replace their heavy losses and gather a force at Stäket, a river passage on the road to Stockholm from Västerås.

The Union force still haden´t got their full strenth when the rebell army approach Stäket. The Swift advance of the rebells took the Union with a suprise, and almost caught the Union Leader Erik Karlsson from the House of Vasa and his troops right away, they managed to start the retreat towards the saftey at Stäket.

This all boil down to the "Raiding a Border Tower" scenario from the Dux Britanniarum rule book.

OOB

Swedish rebells forces (Commanded by Jonas)
Influence: 1 (Lowered to 1 as he used 5 points to be elected Hövitsman/High Leader of the rebellion by the Allmoge)

Comander Hövitsman Nils Bosson Sture of the House of Natt och Dag
3 units of 6 Allmoge each

Leader Sten Gustavsson of the House of Sture
2 units of 4 Mounted Hardened Allmoge each

Leader Ivar Axelsson from the House of Tott (That more or less just have turned side from pro union to rebell)
1 unit of 4 Frälse

1 unit of 4 Handgunners/Skirmishers

Union forces (Commanded by me)
Influence: 1

Comander Marsk Erik Nilsson of the House of Oxenstierna (Cousin to the Archbishop)
1 units of 4 Frälse

Leader Erik Karlsson from the House of Vasa (Brother in law to Erik Nilsson)
2 units of 6 Fotknektar each

The retreating Union Knechts had a small head start and had to move to saftey by the Union camp at the ford.

The Rebell forces diced for their entery point and it turned out that they would arrive from the road to the right. The first units to slowly arrive was the Allmoge soldiers...

The Union responce to the arriving Rebells was to Swiftley run for cover at the small farm as they knew that the Allmoge Crossbows was realy deadly

The allmoge troops effective blocked the way for the Rebell cavalry to enter...

...and when the Allmoge at last should move out of the way, all their movement was negated by a Treason card played by the Union:)

Due to the lack of mobility amongst the rebells Erik Karlsson from the House of Vasa managed to move his Knecht further awy and closer to saftey...

The Union Marsk Erik Nilsson of the House of Oxenstierna moved his small unit of Knights out of the Union camp to cover the escape route of the Knecht...

Union camp and safe heaven for the union troops...

AT LAST ! The Rebell Knights and mounted Allmoge arrive at last, they making a svift advance along the road to try to catch the retreating union knecht....

It looked like it would be a tought task for the rebells...

The rebell leader Sten Gustavsson of the House of Sture urge his mounted allmoge to hurry on...

Slowly moving allmoge...traitors?

The Union Knights prepeare to attack the Mounted allmoge that are approaching...

One unit of Union Knights in a fierce combat with two units of Rebell Allmoge...

...it turned out to be a bloody business for both sides...

Fortunate for the Rebells they had some frech knights to puch forward...

...but they wasn´t quick enought as the major part of the Union Infantry managed to reach saftey in the Union camp...

The Union side had a minor victory as the commanders managed to flee but it had costed them several of their Noble Knights...

The rebells haden´t manage to catch their prey much due to the treason? by the allmoge troops that blocked the way for the Cavalry...

Yet one more realy nice game with the Dux Britanniarum rules, next time the Rebells will try to cross the river at Stäket to get a cleare way to the Swedish Capital Stockholm....

A Very Moderate Swedish Conflict AAR #6

Last week I and Jonas run a couple of test games of the rules I been working on lately for our "A Very Moderate Swedish Conflict" Club Project.

This time we run some small games using 200 point forces and only a 90x60cm gaming area...what could be fited in on my kitchen table.

I also got a chanse to use my new built "Dalkulla" and the latest addition to the project, the Wasa Defense Corps.

OOB

Wasa Defense Corps
Regulars: Veteran //Confident

Leader:
  • Lieutenant Colonel Ekström with Close Assault Weapon, Tactician and Unpredictable. Offboard Mortar Support,
Troops:
  • 1 Rifle Squad of 8 men with Rifles one with Close Assault Weapon.
  • 1 LMG Squad of 6 men with Rifles and one Light Machine Gun.

"Gruvettan" Socialist miner union

Troops:

  • 1 HMG Squad of 4 men with Rifles and HMG.
  • 1 Loyd Carrier with A-T Rifle
Gruvettan advanced along the road in cover of their Loyd Carrier. They haden´t come far as it caught fire from the enemy and the engine catch fire...

Gruvettan tried to return the fire to no vain...

The Deffence Corps advanced stediely towards the objective the uthility station.

In cover of some well placed mortar rounds with smoke one of the Gruvettan assault squads managed to advance close to the "Dalkulla"

ASSAULT !!!!  Charging, yelling, throwing dynamite, and the Vasa Defence Corps was on the run after a short and fierce close assault...

The Gruvettan celebrate their first success for a long while...

We had a very nice game, that run for about 90 minutes, but we talked quite much of different rules etc, so it would have been concluded in about 60 minutes.

Below follows a few pictures of our second game for the evening, that was concluded in about 60 minutes and Gruvettan got to celebrate once more:)

Last you will get a sneak peak of the game board for tonights club game. We will use about 600 points on each side. Of course you will find a AAR at blog near you...

Wasa Defense Corps

In my miniature cabinet I have had some 28mm Finnish World War 2 miniatures that I painted some 10 years ago, I now found a new use for them in our "A Very Moderate Swedish Conflict" club project.

Based on this quote of a telephone call that was made by the Commander of Vasa Defence Corps, Lieutenant Colonel Martin Ekström, the morning after the shooting in Ådalen 1931 to the his friend and newspaper man in Stockholm Otto Järte:

"Here it says in the papers that it is full rebellion of the red in Ådalen and that the position is serious. If the Swedish authorities can not handle the situation, I am prepared to within twelve hours mobilize my seven battalions defence corps here in Ostrobothnia, around 7,000 men. I can also seize all sea vessels in Ostrobothnian ports and over ship with necessary supplies to Ådalen."

Lieutenant Colonel Martin Ekström

They never sent the troops that time, BUT as in our story the Ådalen events escalated in to a full conflict I´m sure that Lieutenant Colonel Ekström would have sent at least some troops to Sweden to fight the reds, especially as he still was a Swedish citizen with his roots in Dalarna/Darlecarlia.

So now my Finnish soldiers will represent the Wasa Defense Corps fighting for the White side in our very moderate Swedish conflict. I have given them a white arm band and a new base.

Here are a picture of the minis that are divided in to Leader with a 8 men Rifle Squad and a 6 men LMG Squad, about 200 points for our rules. All minis from Black Tree Designs.

You will see more of them in the next AAR...
