AAR Vikings v. Saxons #4

Some three weeks ago I and JonasM run the 4th Dux Britanniarum game in our 9th century cronicle about Gutorm the Coward, the unliked son of a Viking King. Gutorm tries to carve out a kingdom for himself and his seariders on the other side of the northsea...

The Defenders of the Anglo-Saxon realms have repulsed tree of the attacks and are in a good spirit, to protect their property Aethelbald the Cruel have to move it all to the old roman fort and now he sends out patrols to locate the Vikings to be able to run them away for good...

Here are some pictures from the game...

Yet one realy nice game of Dux Britanniarum. Now Gutorm the Coward have to sail back to the north to pay dady, the King, a tribute and tell stories of all he´s deeds...he might be back next summer to follow up he´s achievements...

If you haven already visit Jonas M´s exellent blog "A Conflict of Interests" please take a look.

  2. Nice report!
I prefer this format with the text in white boxes. It is cleaner and clearer than the previous method you used. It is also nice as you can go through the pictures - with the texts included - without missing any information. I might have to try it...
How did you make the road sections? Or did you buy them somewhere? They look good but not too complicated.

    1. Thanks Mattias !

Glad you liked the text boxes, absolutely clearer and easyer to read.

The roads are hand made by me:) I used 2mm MDF and a jigsaw/drywall saw to cut out appropriate sections , PVA glue, sand, paint and some flock...and the roads was up on the gaming table.

    1. Thaks Paul, glad you like it:)

      SAGA or Dux Brit...

Dux Brit I suppouse, gives me games I like.

SAGA is nice to, but more for competitive gamin I think. I realy don´t like that you don´t have any total warband moral in SAGA, to often the games run untill most minis are wiped out... but it was a action game to that point.

  10. This one was a real nail biter I tell you! Only through a couple of lucky dice rolls for movement and a well played "Disengage" card did I manage to outrun Michaels vikings, and see my noble safe in the fort.

This was a fun campaign – not only because I won all games (woho!) – but also because all games were exciting and close fought. Despite some minor hiccups (mostly on our part), the rules flowed very well and together with the campaign system it really felt like the game produced an interesting story.

Personally I far prefer Dux Brit to Saga, as the former is more immersive: It feels like I'm commanding a fighting force, rather than playing a game.

But maybe I will warm to Saga if I can finally win a game ... ;)
