Second Battle of Tabasco

Found some pictures from our Mexican-American war game "Second Battle of Tabasco" that I run at the club a couple of month ago using the Rebels and Patriot rules published by Osprey.

The battle was fought 15-16 June 1847, the American was advancing along Tabasco river in steamboats to capture the city of San Juan Bautista (presentday Villahermosa).

The Mexican had blocked the river and set up fieldworks to protect the blocades. Our game focused on the land attack made on the morning 16 June 1847 by the American forces leader Commodore Perry and some 1000 men with the objective to cleare the field works and caprutre the city. The fieldworks was defended by Colonel Hidalgo and his 600 men that had to leave their breakfast uneaten to take up the fight.

Historacly the Americans on the steamers managed to get pass the blocade and capture the city before Commodore Perry managed to arrive there on foot.

Below you can see some pictures from our game, we run it as the Scenario "Retreat to the Sunken Road" from the rules, there the Mexican had leave their breakfast and retreat back from the fieldworks to Fort Iturbide just outside the City, it all ended in an American Victory.

It is something rotten in the city of Stralsund

Osprey Games have more or less just released their latest skirmish rules The Silver Bayonet, written by Joseph A. McCullough,

I was very impressed by the lauout of the rules, one of the best from Ospry in my mind, love the old book look and the black and white illustrations, it all gives good inspiration exccept for the Unit sheet that are a bit boring. I just had a few test games so far, but can conclude that  I love the rules and they work very well!

As you all probably know by now, I’m a big fan of having a Swedish angel of my wargaming project and of course so this time to.

During the War of the Fourth Coalition that started in October 1806 more or less all fighting nations (France, Spain, Prussia, Russian England and of course Sweden) ended up with some troops in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern area close to, by the time Swedish city of Stralsund in Swedish Pomeria, so it is the perfect time and place for some Napoleonic monster hunts.

Bleow some pictures of the rulebook and of my Swedes, Officer with a Blunderbuss, 2 Marksmen from the Waermland Jaegers and 5 men from the Dalecarlian regiment :)
