Dux Bellorum Romano-British Cavalry #1

With Dux Brittanniarium out and not even 2 weeks left for the 2nd big Arthurina rules releas, Dux Bellorum I thought it was time to get me a enemy army for my Saxons.

This will also be stage 2 in my rebasing of my Late Roman/Romano-British minis. As I have the cavalry and some more skirmishers left to rebase this will be a allout mounted force, think I read at Dan´s blog thet it is possible for the Romano-British to field very much cavalry.

So here are some pictures of the first unit. The units will be made up of 5 minis on a 80x50mm movement tray. the minis are based on 40x20mm oval bases specialy ordered from Warbases.

Swedish Interwar 28mm Infantry #2

Here are some pictures of 4 more of Björns Swedish Interwar 28mm Infantry. This time in helmets.

The Swedish infantry squad by the time was composed of:
1x Gruppchef / Squad leader with rifle
1x Stf. gruppchef / 2nd in command with rifle
1x Skytt / LMG gunner with LMG m/21
9x Skyttar / Riflemen

In total 12 men.

Swedish Interwar 28mm Infantry

My friend Björn have a greate interest in Swedish Interwar Infantry, so he have actually commissioned a serie of 15! 28mm minis, 12 regulars, 2 Officers and a regular with LMG.

They have uniforma and equipment to work for Swedish Infantry 1910-1939.

They are sculped by Aaron Brown at Black Crab Sculpting Studio

Last Battle of Tord Bond, 15th century AAR

I was lucky enought to get to games last week:) This is a AAR of a 15th century "Kalmar Union War" game I and my Danish friend Sören played using the Hail Caesar rules. This is a new scenario that I´have been working on and it needed to be tested, might get some rewrite after this game...

Historical background
It is January 1456. It have been war between Sweden /King Karl Knutsson Bonde and Denmark(Union/King Kristian I of Oldenburg sins 1451 but it have not come to any decisive victorys.

During the summer of 1455 the Danes invade the southern swedish county of Småland and started to build a castle that they call Danaborg (Danish Castle). The Swedish King responden by sending he´s most prominent Knight, the Lord High Constable/Marsk, he´s cousin Tord Karlsson from the House of Bonde.

Tord Bonde and his troops managed to storm the Castel and kill all inhabitants, the castle was them called Danasorg (Danish Sorrow)...

The Lord High Constable was then sent to the Swedish westcoast there he started to build a castle, Karlsborg/Karls Castle, in defens for Danish aggressions from Norway.

Some times during the Autumn/Vinter/Spring of 1455/1456 the Danes responds by sending the Norwegian Knight Kolbjörn Gesth and a infantry force of about 3000 norwegian allmoge soldiers. The heroic Tord Bonde mustered his Knights, Svenner and knechts about 300 mounted men and rode out to attack the invaders...

...as the Danish/Norwegian force saw the mounted force they responded by forming a defensive line with there wagons. About 2/3 of the Swedish cavalryforce charged the enemy defenses... a fierce battle took place, the Swedish cavalry made a voluntary retreat luring the triumphant Danes/Norwegians out of the security of theirs wagon lager...

Here our battle started...

The Norwegians widen theirs line... The Swedish commander Tord Bonde turned his Knights around for a new attack... but he din´t charge right away as he wanted the Norwegians to move further and expose their left flank...

As the Norwegians moved to get within shooting distance, the Swedes reveal their ambush... It truly caused some fear at the Norwegian commanders:)

The Swedes didn´t wait for a new invitation but charged right away... three small units of knights could truly cause some hawok... Several of the Norwegian Allmoge units had to retreat, seriously damaged...

Soon the first Norwegian allmoge unit was broken... and the main Swedish forse started to turn to the left and continue the attack. 

At the same time the Swedish ambush force under command of Erik Gyllenstierna was in a hard fight with the Norwegian Commander in chief, Kolbjörn Gesth, and he´s last unit of allmoge...

Kolbjörns allmoge soldiers broke and he was wounded and had to retreat to tha norwegian wagon lager...

Meanwhile the Swedish commander in chief Tord Bonde lead he´s Knights in a new attack on the last Norwegian battle...

One again a Norwegian commander was severly wounded in the heat of battle... But the Allmoge soldier keept on fighting...

The battle was extremly tense, Tord Bonde exposed him self by leading his men from the front... It payed of as the Allmoge unit broke...

But to a cost... The Swedish C-in-C Tord Bonde was badly wounded in the last fight...

Then the third norwegian allmoge unit broke the battle was won for the Swedes...

This was a realy nice and tense battle, I actually belived that the small knight units would not be any match for the average Allmoge units... but it felt realy even. 

We both had ha realy good and enjoyable game with stunning 3 wounded commanders...Hail Caesar are truly good rules that work even on small tables, we used a standard 120x180cm one but with 2/3 of all distances.

Historica endnote

The Swedish Lord High Constable/Marsk Tord Karlsson of the house of Bonde was murdered a few month later, may 1456 at the Castel Karlsborg by he´s own Castlevogt the Danish born Jösse Bosson...

Vikings vs. Anglo-Danish AAR

Last monday I introduced my friend Sören in to some SAGA gaming in wait for Dux Brittanniarum to arrive...

We run the clash of warlord scenario Sören bossing with the Vikings and I commanding the Anglo-Danes.

Forgot to photo the setup... this is after two turns of Vikings advancement with the major part of the small village, only defended by some ill coordinated levy archers...

The rest of the Anglo-Danes had formed a nice sheild wall just outside the village expecting the Vikings to charge headlong...

Panic in the village as the vild vikings approaches... the levys tryed to put up a fight but was quite fast overrun and slughterd as livestock.

The Anglo-Danish warlord Sweyn now advanced with the main part of he´s men only sending a small group of heathguards to secure the flank against the threat in the village...

Runolf the Red took the bait and started to move his warband away from the village, also moving the bersearkers forward from their possision in the rear, to meet the Anglo-Danes in the open...

Several turns of combat followed, Runolf the Red seemed to have the best fighters around and the victory was close...

The Anglo-Danish warlord Sweyn Veggr was desperate, he had to show how was the man for the day and charged in to a last single combat with the Viking warlord...

A fierce fight took place and several warriors and heatguards on both sides sacrificed their lives for theirs warlord...

After the dust had cleard Runolf the Red laid slain on the ground and the remaining vikings was fleeing for their ship. Sweyn Veggr raised he´s blody axe in the sky...FREEEEEDOM;)

Anglo-Danish Victory 16 to 15...not to decisive.

This was a good and very close fight, and I think Sören was hooked by the SAGA hype:) 

Dux Britanniarum are in the building...

Today I got my copy of the Dux Brianniarum, cards and the special Arthur mini:)

Very nice products indeed, some howe i did expect to get a hardback book...don´t know were I did get that from, anyway, I´m realy pleased with the quality of the rulebook and ofcourse the stunning A3 map, realy lovely. I still haven´t read it all yet...

The cards was realy nice but I have to get me some card sleevs to protect them.

The Arthur minis was a realy nice sculpt and will of course find its way in to my Roman-British warband.

40K...

Not realy 40K, but some times it feels like i´m 40K years old a day like this then I turn 40...

I have got the singing, brekfast in bed, jumping kids in bed... and some smal gifts, as my big one I cashed in by my Salute tripp in April...

I´m happy to have a lovely wife that knows I love minis so she had gone through the trouble to get me a new SAGA Warband (Gripping Beasts Jomsvikings that are stunningly sculpted by Bill T), some new Saxon tents by Rendera and a couple of DVD´s. 

...the Lego Boat wasn´t for me... but my 3,5 year old son...convenient enought he needed some help to build it;)

The best of gifts, a tripp to London and Salute 2012... I hope I get the chanse to go in 2013 to...

Dux Britanniarum Romano-British Warband

Release day of the TooFatLardies new Arthurian rules Dux Britanniarum !!!

Hope I will get the .pdf file soon... The .pdf file of the rules arriwed at  03:53am :) I have just open the file and at a first glance the layout looks realy good, (only the QRS had a strange white background at a part of the page...) will let you kow my first impressions about the rules as soon as I get some spare time to run it through...

Just to wait for the book and cards to arriwe...

My goal the last week have been to rebase 1 unit (6 minis) a day (and still get lots of time for the family...) until the 30th and the release of the rules. This have given me enough minis for a Romano-British starter army:

1x4 Missile

I will ofcourse also use the minis for Dux Bellorum to:) But for the Dux Bellorum Romano-British starter army I will need some cavalry to...and that will be re-basing step 2 in august just in time fore the release of the Dux Bellorum at august 20th.
