As I have painted some fantasy minis lately they had to be used for a game of Dragon Rampant with my son David.
David took command of the 4 heroic adventurers arriving to the small village "Utkante" just as the evil Black bloods arrived to sack it and capture all the villages to be placed in the black depth of their mines as slaves.
OOB Adventurers
Lord Bazak - Dwarf Warrior (Fielded as Elite Foot) @ 6 points (He was also the Leader of the group)
Klom - Ogre Brute (Fielded as Elite Foot) @ 6 points
Genevieve - Human Mercenary (Fielded as Expert Light Missile) @ 6 points
Mizar - Human Mage (Fielded as Expert Heavy Missile) @ 6 points
As I wanted them all to have 6 hit I raised the Armour with +1 for the "units" that normaly are made up of 12 minis.
OOB Black bloods
2 units with Belicose Foot with good armour @ 6 points each
1 unit of Heavy Missile @ 4 poits
1 unit of Terrefying Greater Warbeast @ 8 points
From the deep forest comes the evil Black bloods...
The poor villagers of Utkante try to run for their lives...
The Black Blod have brougt the most evil of all creatures,.. a big troll...
Fortunate enought for the villagers of Utkante 4 Heroic Adventurors was just passing by and they was wery eager to performe some new heroic deeds that the people can sing folksongs about...
The big troll notice them and gives up a big warcry as he show of his nicely polished fangs...
The most heroci of them all Lord Bazak run as fast as he can with his short legs to engage the hidious troll... only to be beaten back, but at least the troll was damaged...
As Lord Bazak retreats to drink some mead the Oger Klom take up the challange...
A fearsome fight erupts between the two gigants and they both seems very hapy about it even as they both get wounded...
Also Klom are puchedback by the big, big, evil, evil, evil, troll...
The rest of the Black Bloods have now arrived in to the Village after Genevieve and Mizar have harassed them with intense shooting and the occational bolt of lightning...
Villagers fleeing from the hoard of Black bloods...
Klom once again charge in to the Troll...
.. and some how manage to get the Troll down on his back so Klom can finish the troll off with his big ironclad foot...
Furious with grief the Black Bloods charges Klom to retaliate that hi so brutaly killed their Troll pet...
More Black Bloods ...
The Crossbow armed Black bloods run after the escaping willager as the Black blood chief with his entourage decide to fight it of with the four pesky human heros...
Lord Bazak scare the first group of Black bloods back to the deep forest...
But the Black blood chief havent got enought yet...
The villagers run even faster...
...when they are chased through the village by a group of screaming black bloods...
In the main squar Lord Bazak face of with the Black blood chief...
...charging in to the Black bloods that manage to counter charge Lord bazaks attack...
Lord Bazak are overpowered by the Black bloods... fortunate Klom comes to his rescue manageing to get the Black blood chief to run...
...all calm again in the small village of Utkante... Our four Heroic adventurers are invited to the village Inn for a feast to their honour...
Lord Bazak have just gott his honour dented a bit but glad to still be alive for more heroic deeds...
Inspirational terrain and minis
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely superb Michael, what a fabulous game and set up.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love how the Rampant rules are flexible enough to work for single model characters. /Mattias
ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I have tested this way of playing, and the only "problem" that I have found is when a reduced unit bowman of just one miniature kills a group of soldier with just one attack. How do you explain this? multiple shoots? or Indina Jones shotting one bullet and killing six nazis on a tank?
ReplyDeleteWhat is your proposal?
I don't realy see that as a problem as you don't have a time set on each activation, 1 shoot action are probably not a singel arrow shot but a serie of arrows. I don't see it as a singel mini unit that attack a group in close combat just makes one their against the group Killing them all either, the singel mini engage the enemy group and they fight for a while and then they retreat to catch their Berth ( the units activation is over)
DeleteSo don't see it as a singel event in a singel second, see it more as a Short sequence that might be 30 seconds or 2 minutes,
Best regards Michael
Thanks Michael for your explanation, I can see your point and it is very interesting, the confrontations are not just a strike, but a complete moment of strikes and strickebacks.
DeleteThis explanation and your AAR are very motivating to continue testing this way of using your ruleset.
Perhaps could be very interesting to publish a free short supplement where the miniatures are used as reduced units adding new special rules in a Dungeon Crawler way... or more RPGish...
Excellent eclectic game...I find DR works great with reduced figures and really well introducing younger players 😀
ReplyDeleteGreat game Michael!
ReplyDeleteA super looking game Micheal!
