Arrived with the post today - Swdish Line Infantry 1808-09

It have been a long wait, today I got them, the first 4 packs of Swedish Line Infantry for the Finnish War made by Alan Perry. Alan have done a greate work and I know he got invaluable information from Martin at the Swedish Army museum that are a true expert in the matter of Swedish Napoleonic Uniforms. Looking forward to more minis in the range, rumours telling Cavalry, in time we will see.

Not decided how to paint them, the one I converted my self i painted in the Swedish regiment "Upplands Regiment" so I reccon I will go for a Finnish regiment this time, probably "Björneborgs regiment"

By the way if you by any chanse missed it, by 1808 Sweden and Finland was one contry - Sweden, and had been so for about 500 years. Finland was the eastern part of Sweden and by the loss of the Finnish War in 1809 and thereby the loss of Finland the Swedish Kingdom lost 25% of its population and 1/3 of its teritorry

  5. They look very nice, will be on my shopping list too, but as I’ve already converted and painted some 160 minis for this war, it’s not so urgent! 😉 And no, not a chance I would have missed that fact!

  6. Got mine yesterday and I'll definitely paint them as Finns, given that they did most of the actual fighting ;) The only thing I'm wondering about is the sash worn by the figures around their waist. The uniform plates for Finnish regiments don't seem to feature them. I wonder if Finns wore them?

    1. Glad you liked them Mikko:)

Yes both the finnish and swedish regimens had the blue/yellow sash.

I’m not sure what picture you refere to but if it is the most common ones they was drawn later and Also depict the finnish troops in the 1802 uniform with a colours breast part with 2 rows of buttoms as well as they have the wrong back pack so they are not accurate.

    2. I'm mainly referring to Staaff's "Taflor till fänrik ståls sägner" (http://runeberg.org/scttaflor/0067.html) and Johan Jacob Burman's memoir (http://mazikainen.blogspot.fi/2011/11/some-uniform-plates-for-russo-swedish.html)

    3. Hi Mikko
The savolax I cant say about. But the other infantry have the uniform m/1802 and the singel button with blue/yellow sash are the m/1806 uniform. Not may regiments did get the m/1806 uniform but they was ordered to alter the old m/1802 in to m/1806 cut. The uniform colours was the same.

    4. So I guess it won't be far off either way. The sash does give the figures a bit more colour and detail, especially for the grey Finnish uniform. Did some reading last night about which units I might do for Sharp Practice and Von Fieandt's force in summer 1808 seems perfect. For me, doing the Savonians is a given because I've lived most of my life there and I've received my army training in the Savolax Brigade in St. Michel so I'm a bona fide Savolax Jäger ;)
