Battle of Chippawa July 5, 1814

Our friend Jesper had arranged a Battle of Chippawa July 5, 1814 game for me, Jonas and Sören during the week, using the Black Powder rules.

The table we used was 120x240cm and all minis was from Jespers collection. The scenario was from the Niagara 1814 campaign book by Tim King, you can down load it here, I´m not sure if Jesper used it as it is or if he tweeked it for our game, anyway we had a really good game:)

I will not give you a full AAR, just some pictures from the game.

British militia and allied injuns

Forming up...

American regulars...

British left flank...

Thin red line in the center...

Americans was on the offensive...

The British hold their fire to the last...

The British left flank move in for a kill with cavalry support...

Close combat...

The Americans fought well...

British left flank wasn´t as good as they thought both the Infantry and Cavalry routed...

British artillery lost...

The American regulars was the best for the day and just after this picture was taken the whole British line disintegrated and the Americans i.e. Sören won the day...

  3. Always a pleasure seeing your great looking games - terrain & figures top-notch. An added bonus, for me, is seeing the use of my preferred set of rules, Black Powder & Hail Caesar, for larger games like this. Well done as always! Dean

  6. Nice snap shots from a very enjoyable game indeed. It was truly a pleasure to see Jesper’s 1812 collection on the table again. I recall a series of miraculous dice throws on both sides, and Jonas proclaiming a British “Stiff upper lip” while throwing some magical saves, as the American hordes, fuelled on moonshine, threw them selves at the thin red line. More of these big table games, please!

I and Jonas also thought the American was jusr a road bunp to victory as we had been informed that they only had militia...but that sneaky scenario writer had mad them regulars with a very good commander...not very nice at all...;)

  11. Great AAR from a great AAR! Jesper put on a truly spectacular game with lovely painted miniatures and an interesting scenario.

There were some outrageous dice rolling on both sides, and the battle swung back and forth for a while, but in the end the British got a little over-confident and charged with their left flank when they perhaps should have held their ground.

Søren, a very skilled player, wisely choose the more patient road and was rewarded with a much deserved victory.

Oh well, you live and learn ... :)
